Where to Stay in Exuma: Choose Your Base Before Your Room

Compare a George Town base, a Great Exuma beach stay, Little Exuma and an outer-cay stay by transfers, food, road trips and the activities that matter to you.

Quick answer

Choose the island and transfer plan before comparing rooms. A George Town-area base, a beach property elsewhere on Great Exuma, Little Exuma and an outer cay can create very different daily journeys and provisioning needs.

A beautiful room is only one part of an Exuma stay. Before comparing pools and interiors, decide where you want to spend most of your time and how you will get there. The accommodation photograph at the top shows one property, Serenity at Moriah Harbour; it illustrates a waterfront setting and is not a ranking, availability statement or endorsement of every amenity pictured.

Start with three non-negotiables

Ask everyone traveling to name the most important part of the trip: beach time at the accommodation, independent road exploring, guided boat outings, easy meal arrangements or a particular cay. Then write down any requirements such as step-free access, a kitchen or a separate bedroom. Use those answers to screen locations before spending hours comparing room photographs.

A George Town-area base

Research this area if your plans involve town services and Elizabeth Harbour departures. It can simplify some journeys, but “George Town” in a listing does not guarantee you can comfortably walk to a shop or dock. Ask the property for the precise entrance, the route to places you need and whether a road walk is appropriate. Peace & Plenty, for example, publishes a specific transfer arrangement from its resort to its beach club; that arrangement should not be assumed for other accommodations.

Use the George Town hub to compare the location of your plans, then confirm transport with the property or operator.

A beach base elsewhere on Great Exuma

A property outside town may suit travelers who want to spend substantial time where they stay. Compare the actual beach access, shade and dining arrangements rather than treating “waterfront” and “sandy swimming beach” as equivalent. Ask how you would reach groceries and each booked excursion. Include those journeys in the cost comparison, whether you will drive or use transfers.

Our Great Exuma guide and accommodation directory help identify candidates. Contact the accommodation for current facilities, access and booking terms.

Little Exuma

Little Exuma may fit a trip centered on its beaches and a quieter daily schedule. The bridge makes road outings possible, but your chosen property's position still matters. Calculate the practical effect of grocery runs, meals and early excursion meeting times. If a listing is near Tropic of Cancer Beach, ask whether its claimed beach access is direct, shared or reached by a separate route.

Great Exuma or Little Exuma? Compare an ordinary day

Picture your first full day and your earliest departure. Write down where you will get groceries, where you expect to eat dinner, and which dock your trip uses. Great Exuma has the airport and George Town. Little Exuma puts you nearer Tropic of Cancer Beach. Compare the drives from each property to the places you will use more than once before choosing a base or splitting your stay.

An outer-cay stay

Choose a cay because you want that location, after confirming the complete arrival plan. An airport on Great Exuma is not interchangeable with an airport or landing near your property. Ask who arranges the last transfer, what happens after a delayed flight and whether the arrival window is restricted. Our getting-here guide explains why the final leg belongs in the booking decision.

Hotel or self-catering rental?

A kitchen can make breakfast and flexible meals easier, but only if it is equipped for your plans and you can obtain supplies. Ask about refrigeration, cookware, drinking-water arrangements and basic provisions. For a hotel, establish which meals and transfers are included rather than inferring them from a restaurant photograph. Compare the total stay: room, transport, meals, cleaning or service charges and any activity fees you expect.

Send these questions before booking

Save the answers with your reservation. A base that fits your daily plans can be more valuable than an extra amenity that requires inconvenient journeys all week.
