Quick answer
Start with the first breakfast, drinking water and one simple meal, then shop for the rest after checking the kitchen and your itinerary. Confirm the specific store branch and any delivery arrangement before relying on it.
Provisioning works best when it follows your holiday plans. If several lunches are included in excursions and you want to try local restaurants, a large arrival-day shop can leave you with more food than you use. Begin with the first morning and one backup meal. Then buy for the days you actually expect to eat at your accommodation.
Ask the host about the kitchen first
Check what is supplied rather than relying on a broad “full kitchen” description. Ask about the cooker, refrigerator and freezer space, cookware, kettle or coffee equipment, drinking-water arrangements, basic seasonings and cleaning supplies. For a grill, ask whether use is permitted and whether the required fuel and equipment are provided. Do not buy ingredients for an appliance that is not available.
If you plan to hire a chef, agree who purchases ingredients before you shop. Otherwise you can end up paying twice for the same items or filling the refrigerator space the chef needs.
Choose the correct grocery location
Exuma Markets' own contact page lists George Town and Hoopers Bay locations with different hours, as well as personal-shopping and provisioning contact information. Confirm the exact branch and today's arrangements before traveling. A Sunday schedule or holiday change at one branch should not be assumed to apply to another. Our groceries and essentials guide provides the directory starting point.
Smitty's also publishes a grocery department. Compare stores by what you need and where you are traveling, without assuming a particular brand, specialty item or quantity is in stock. For an essential product, contact the store directly and discuss an acceptable substitute before arrival.
A small first-night list
- Drinking water appropriate to your group's plans and the property's arrangements.
- Breakfast ingredients and the coffee or tea supplies you actually use.
- One straightforward meal that suits the confirmed kitchen.
- Snacks for a transfer or boat day, where the operator allows outside food.
- Any cleaning or storage basics the host says are not supplied.
Build quantities from your group size and meal plan rather than a generic vacation checklist. Buy chilled items near the end of the shopping trip and go directly to the accommodation so you can put them away. Avoid leaving groceries in a parked vehicle while adding an unplanned beach stop.
Arrange delivery or provisioning in writing
Ask the provider whether it serves your accommodation and whether the requested delivery date is available. Supply the property name, an agreed contact and delivery instructions. Confirm the shopping fee, delivery charge, payment method and substitution policy. Establish who will receive the groceries and put chilled items away if you have not arrived.
For a remote property or an outer-cay stay, discuss the entire delivery route with the host. A mainland grocery service listing does not guarantee delivery across the water. Confirm any extra transfer, timing or storage arrangements before placing the order.
Plan the middle of the stay
Once settled, review the refrigerator and your upcoming meals. Combine a top-up with a trip already taking you toward shops. Keep breakfast simple and avoid buying full packages for a recipe you will cook only once unless you have a plan for what remains. If you change a restaurant or excursion booking, adjust the shopping list too.
Before checkout
Ask the host what to do with unopened food and recycling or rubbish. Do not assume the next guest can use opened items. A short, deliberate final shop usually makes checkout easier. For meals away from the villa, use our dining-planning article to balance shopping with the places you want to try.
