Quick answer

For a first week based on Great Exuma, combine two road days, a Stocking Island visit, one optional guided boat excursion and an uncommitted day. Choose the order after discussing weather and departure arrangements with your operators.

A good Exuma week needs room to breathe. Booking every morning before you arrive makes it harder to adapt when a boat departure changes or a beach deserves longer than expected. This suggested itinerary assumes seven nights on Great Exuma and access to a rental car or arranged transfers. It is a planning example, not a package with guaranteed departures.

Before choosing your dates for each activity

Write down your accommodation location, arrival and departure times, and the meeting point for any excursion. Great Exuma, Little Exuma and the outer cays are different planning areas. A photograph labelled “Exuma” does not tell you whether the place is a short drive away or requires a substantial boat journey. Start with our arrival guide and ask each operator which island and dock it uses.

Day 1: Arrive, settle in and provision

Keep arrival day close to your accommodation. Collect the car or meet your driver, check in, and buy enough for the first breakfast and an easy meal. Confirm where you can park and how to contact the host after hours. A late arrival is a reason to arrange food ahead, not to rely on a particular shop still being open. Use the provisioning checklist to separate essentials from optional purchases.

Day 2: Get oriented around George Town

Make this a relatively light day: explore the waterfront, locate the departure dock for any booked trip and choose lunch near your route. This is a useful time to confirm tomorrow's transport in person. Our George Town guide connects the town's places and practical information. Choose one nearby beach later only if access and conditions suit your group; you do not need to collect several beach stops in a single afternoon.

Day 3: Visit Stocking Island

Stocking Island sits across the harbour from George Town and is reached by boat. Choose a specific beach or venue, agree the return arrangement, and build the day around that landing. A transfer to one beach club does not automatically include transport to another. Bring what you need for the time ashore and leave a margin before the last agreed pickup. See our Stocking Island day-trip plan.

Day 4: Drive to Little Exuma

Use a daylight road day for Little Exuma and Tropic of Cancer Beach. Plan one principal beach stop and a meal whose availability you have checked. A second stop is optional. Carry water and a snack so a closed kitchen does not dictate your afternoon. Follow the Little Exuma route framework for choosing stops without treating an unverified shortcut as a public access road.

Day 5: Take your main guided boat excursion

If a cays excursion is a priority, book it with enough days remaining to discuss a weather change. Ask about time aboard, sheltered seating, toilets, meals, fees and the actual planned stops. Read the Pig Beach guide if that is your destination. This is the most movable day in the example: an operator may recommend an earlier window, and no itinerary should override its assessment.

Day 6: Leave an open day

Use this for a rescheduled trip, a return to a favourite beach, or a shorter outing with time at your accommodation. An open day also helps groups with different energy levels: some can rest while others arrange a nearby activity. Avoid assuming an unused reservation can always be refunded; check cancellation terms before paying.

Day 7 and departure morning: Finish close to home

Choose an easy final full day, then check fuel, car-return instructions and airport transfer arrangements. Keep the departure morning free of offshore excursions. Confirm check-in timing with the airline, including any onward connection. Save the sequence in the trip planner, but treat the order as adjustable rather than a seven-day promise.

What if you only have four days?

Choose between a major cays excursion and a second road day instead of compressing the entire week. Keep arrival and departure logistics intact. A smaller plan that fits your accommodation and transport is usually more useful than a long checklist of places you cannot comfortably reach.
