Choose the route before choosing the operator

Write down one priority: visiting a particular pig island, exploring the harbour, snorkeling, a beach-focused outing or spending time together on a private boat. Then separate essential stops from optional ones. If one landmark is the reason for booking, ask whether it belongs to the exact product you are considering and what happens if conditions prevent that stop.

A tour sold from Great Exuma needs a plan for reaching its dock. Staying around George Town, near Emerald Bay, on Little Exuma or on another cay changes that plan. A company name or a general map pin is not enough: some operators use more than one departure. Travelers based in Nassau should compare Nassau-departing products separately and establish the whole connection before booking a Great Exuma excursion. Which swimming pigs does the tour visit?

“Swimming pigs” does not identify one route. Exuma Water Sports names White Bay Cay on its half-day page and Big Major Cay on its full-day Staniel Cay page. Robert’s Island Adventures identifies Big Major Cay on its full-day Cays itinerary, while its private Eco tour explicitly excludes pigs. The Cays to Exuma describes a Rolleville pig outing on its half-day page.

If you mean the Pig Beach near Staniel Cay, say Big Major Cay in your inquiry. Ask for the island name in writing and keep that reply with your reservation. A shorter trip to a different pig location may suit your day, but it should be an informed choice. Do not add Thunderball Grotto or Compass Cay to your expectations simply because a product mentions pigs. Departure docks and pickup: compare the actual product

The profiles link the operator pages checked on November 3, 2026. Use the current reservation instructions for travel. Keep the dock pin, check-in time and a contact number offline. Ask whether the stated start time means hotel pickup, dock check-in or the boat leaving; those are three different times. For a taxi, agree on the return pickup point as well as the outward fare. Shared tour or private charter: compare the whole quote

For a solo traveler or a couple, start by comparing the total for the required seats on shared trips. For a larger party, compare that total with a private quote covering the same route and duration. Divide a charter quote by the number actually traveling only after confirming which guests count toward capacity and whether additional passengers change the price. A private booking can give a group more control over pacing, but it does not remove route, weather or operating limits.

Make a simple comparison with separate lines for the boat or seats, accommodation transfers, lunch, landing fees, equipment and any other stated charges. For a private outing, explain your priorities in order. “One snorkeling stop and time on a beach” gives the operator a clearer brief than a list of every famous landmark. Ask how a changed route affects the agreed price. Keep the written itinerary, inclusions, deposit terms and cancellation policy together.

Match the boat day to the people traveling

Compare time underway as carefully as time at the stops. A full day that links distant attractions has a different rhythm from an outing focused on one area. Ask about the actual vessel assigned to your booking: shade, seating, bathroom access, the boarding step and the ladder used after swimming. A photograph of one boat does not establish which boat you will use.

Share the ages in your group and ask about the specific product’s restrictions and flotation equipment. Exuma Water Sports’ full-day group page directs children under five to private charters. For any operator, resolve a child’s equipment needs before paying. Explain access needs and swimming experience directly, including whether anyone prefers to remain aboard. Ask what the non-swimming part of the day will be like and whether a companion can stay with that person.

For snorkeling, distinguish a general reef stop from a cavern or other demanding setting. Use the snorkeling guide to frame questions about supervision, entry, exit and conditions. A tour description cannot assess an individual’s ability or establish that an activity is suitable on the day.

Build a workable day and a weather backup

1. Before booking: settle the route, dock, total cost and suitability for your group.

3. Before departure: check the operator’s update and relevant weather information. Ask about changes instead of interpreting a sunny forecast as confirmation.
4. Keep room to move: if the boat day matters most, place it early enough in your stay to consider another date. Read the difference between cancellation by the operator, cancellation by you, and a route change.

Do not attach a tight flight connection to an advertised boat return time. Ask both transport providers about the required margin before committing. Use the operator's safety process, not a page, as the final decision

Ask who operates the boat, what licenses or insurance apply, how guest capacity is managed, what safety equipment and flotation are carried, and how the crew assesses wind, sea state, lightning, visibility, tide, and passenger ability. Confirm the boarding method, shade, water, bathroom access, swim ladder, child or mobility needs, communication plan, and return procedure. The captain or operator may change or cancel a route when conditions require it; a listing, forecast, or advertised stop cannot override that decision.
