Stocking Island’s monument is an old navigation beacon above Elizabeth Harbour. It stands on a sand dune that hardened into limestone. The dune rises more than 100 feet, high enough for people in George Town to see the beacon across the water. For visitors already on Stocking Island, the monument gives a hike inland a distinct destination. For boaters in the harbour, it explains the conspicuous marker on the skyline.

Practical visitor information
If you are starting in George Town, arrange the crossing to Stocking Island and agree on a pickup point for the return. Ask your boat operator which landing serves the beacon trail. The published height describes the dune, so use the actual trail and your group’s pace to plan the climb.
